Enabling & Generating API (JWT) Access Tokens

    Follow

Generating API (JWT) access tokens in RealNex enables secure integration with external applications, automating workflows and centralizing data for more efficient commercial real estate operations. Administrators initiate this process in the RealNex User Management portal by generating tokens tied to specific user permissions. This guide details the steps to activate and retrieve API tokens within the RealNex Navigator solution.

    Prerequisites: Administrative Access Required

Token generation must be enabled per database before generating API (JWT) access tokens for users. If not enabled, contact us at support@realnex.zendesk.com to request token generation in your database.

Once enabled, only RealNex administrators can enable and generate API (JWT) access tokens for users. Ensure you have the necessary permissions or coordinate with your admin team. This control safeguards your KRM and keeps property data secure when integrating with external platforms.

    Step-by-Step Token Generation

    1. Navigate to Settings > Administration > User Management in RealNex KRM.
    2. Find the user account and click the button with two opposing arrows.
    3. On the next page, click 'Add' to create a new token.
    4. Assign a unique name to the token for reference and click Save.
    5. Click Copy Key to store the generated token securely—this is now ready for API integration.

    API Authentication and Access Control

Robust authentication is essential for secure API usage. RealNex recommends OAuth 2.0 for delegated access and API keys for system-to-system connections.

    Ensure that:

    • Each integration uses unique credentials per user or application instance
    • Access is provisioned with the principle of least privilege
    • Credentials are stored securely and never hard-coded

    Best Practices for Token Management

    • Keep tokens confidential - never share them publicly.
    • Use descriptive names for tokens to track their purpose.
    • Revoke tokens if integration is no longer needed or if a user leaves the organization.

Integrations fueled by these tokens enhance operational efficiency, ensuring your commercial real estate business maximizes technology investments while maintaining strict security controls.
